About Us The Southbrook Traction Engine Club was formed in 1958. At the time of its first rally which was the first rally in the southern hemisphere. The main driving force behind the club and the rally was Marty Pearson and Fred MacIntosh. Over the years the club has not invested in bricks and mortar but has focused on providing a meeting point and assistance to its members, who now have the largest number of traction engines of any club in New Zealand. At present its president is Gray Calder. Gray and the Calder family have a strong traction engine background with known connections with steam contracting, going back over 130 years. The Calder family still have a large number of engines. |
