2006 Burrell Rally
Date: 25th / 26th of March 2006
Location: Rangiora A & P Showgrounds, North Canterbury, NZ
With an excellent response to invitations sent out this rally is on target to being the largest Traction Engine Rally to be held in the Southern Hemisphere. The Rally theme is the ‘Burrell Traction Engine’ and will feature the first Burrell Showmans Scenic engine to visit New Zealand.
The 2006 Rally will be the largest traction engine rally in the Southern Hemisphere with over 60 engines attending. It will also be the first time a showman engine has been seen down under. In conjunction with the theme of the rally being "Burrell's", a scenic Burrell showman's and associate fair ground rides will be attending from the United Kingdom.
Of the 60 engines at the rally, 30 will be Burrell's. We have engines coming from the South Island of New Zealand, Australia, United Kingdom and hopefully one from the United States. The rally is being held in conjunction with the A & P Association and will be held on their grounds in Rangiora on the 25-26 March 2006.
Rangiora is approximately 30kms outside of Christchurch. The principle sponsor is solid energy and in conjunction with their theme of education on industrial heritage we will be running some displays on the Friday for school children who will be bussed in.
The Canterbury Clydesdales horse club will be exhibiting a number of Clydesdales horses in hardness in conjunction with the working displays. For example, the wheat sheaves will be bought to the threshing mill by horses and wagons and also the oat sheaves to the chaff cutter. Logs will be bought to the sawmill again by horses and log jinkers.
There will be a full modern fair ground plus many stalls and associated activities. There will be also a license booth on the grounds and a large photographic exhibitor relating to Burrell's and other local engines in their working days. There are a range of social events for participants.
